Darwin VII and his companions leave Mars Cluster 2, a nation-state formed of inter-connected mile-wide domes. They arrive on Tragnon to renew a previous claim to aluminum farms once found there bearing a flag that would be unrecognized to to anyone still there. Arl, Darwin's legal assistant is lost in translation with inhabitants who have unionized and had their language and politics drift from our own. To save face, an automaton is rigged to find them any unused settlements but equipment drop-shipped there fails. The team redraws their map of this once forgotten planet and bring back a different state of mind to their home, one that may be hard to accept.
